2024 Baen Fantasy Adventure Award Winner!

So, completely insane! A few weeks ago, I posted that I was a finalist for the Baen Fantasy Adventure Award. Well Baen just put up a press release–I am the grand prize winner for my story The Wish Doctor!!!

This will likely silence my you can’t write demon for several days. Possibly for a week. (All writers are issued a you can’t write demon along with a copy of Roget’s thesaurus, a leaky pen and, for some reason, a DVD of Ishtar. Pro-tip: Don’t use the leaky pen on your computer monitor–pencils only.)

The story will be published on the Baen website in September, and I will be going to Dragon Con in Atlanta at the end of August to be given an actual physical award (unless, as my ycw demon says, it’s all a trap). Dragon Con is a bit scary–they often get 80,000+ people, and the con is held across five separate hotels.

Congrats to the other winners, Shannon Fox and J.M. Roberts, and honorable mentionees Robert F. Lowell and David Hankins. Lowell deserves an award just for his story’s title: Bullfrog County Atomic Jackalope Rescue.
